I think it would count because it provides cover. I don't see the difference in plastic and real plants besides the fact that one's real and one's fake.
The differences are quite pronounced. Just one example: With only fake plants, you have to remove nitrates; with a planted tank, you might have to add nitrates. And you cannot use nitrates as an indicator for the necessity of water changes anymore.
The fake plants have the advantage that they cannot die . And you don't have to prune them.
The only things that are similar is that both types provide cover and deco. But the tank chemistry is completely different.
And one final word . . . . . if it weren't for fake plants (in this case, some kind of roundish-broad leaved sword???) in silk, my pre-teen Severum wouldn't have anything to tug and tug and tug on. It's secured well, and if it were real he'd have torn it to pieces by now. Honestly, he looks like a bulldog on that thing. Headbutting stage, I guess. LOL It's pretty entertaining. :laugh:
