can an alarm clock kill or stress fish

I don't think it could. . . its a single noise once a day. If you have one of those big rattly bell type alarms and you put it on top of the tank and it vibrates the glass, then yeah you are going to cause stress. But there have been lots of studies on boat noise and drilling noise and those can cause stress, but don't kill the fish. Think about how much louder a speed boat or an oil drill is, your alarm is not going to be that loud nor is it going to last that long.

Easiest way to test this is to watch the fish when the alarm goes off. If they startle, but come back out, that's not really going to be a problem. They will get used to it, as well, and ignore it. Having really bright lights come on after being in complete darkness is worse, IMO. We tend to think it's quiet underwater, but it isn't.

Fish cannot hear noise, but can feel the rattle of the alarm. Is the clock on the same table? on top of the tank?
