Does anybody know any kind of rope fish or eel that can be kept with an oscar? I have an oscar that ignors fish that are too big for him to eat. He's not a wimp though, his piranha companion just died and I wanna put something cool with him.

I have had a Lutino and a Red Oscar with
  1. Rope fish
  2. senegal bichir's
  3. ornate bichir
I am a fan of anything shaped like a snake ...

What you have to worry about are:
  • sufficient hiding places for tank mates
  • start the Oscar out small so it is used to the tank mates before it is big enough to really hurt them
People told me I couldn't keep a Cory with an Oscar - I never lost my Cory!

Fact Be Told - the FW fish I have had the longest is my Albino Cory who is still doing fine ... :grinyes:

just an idea - you might be able to keep Peacock or Tire Track eel's if you have enough gravel - they hide well!

Don't know about rope fish but I have a pink Convict with my Oscar. The O is 2-3 x the size of the convict and both are very aggressive. Professional Courtesy maybe? I also have a pleco 8-10" and a Silver Dollar 6".

I really think that it depends on the fish. I have an albino and a black tiger oscar with a big pleco and some pictus cats in a 125g. I tried a convict and a JD but the oscars tried to kiil them both. They don't even pay attention to the cats though...

I think its just needs to be big enough that it wont fit in his mouth..My Os wer always babys about feeding, even lived with feeders that were too big..

What works for one person won't always work for another...I personally would never recommend corys with oscars based on horror stories I have heard of mixing oscars with large plecos. It will always depend on the personality of the oscar and how much space you give them...

that was in a 56 gal tank

sure - some people look at their tank -- tap on the glass -- and say "Fishy! Fishy!"

Those people deserve what they get ...

If a person pays attention and does things methodically - they can accomplish a lot!

Currently; I have a Parachromis dovii in a tank with THAT SAME albino Cory

It's all in how you do it - no rocket scientist stuff - just logic!

I got banned from a forum because I had the Cory with those 2 Oscar's ...

That is why I am working on growing my own pet forum ...

because with the right approach and minimal risk many things can actually be done ...

I have enough water to say I know a little bit!

FW: two 90'a, a 56 column, and a 29 Bowfront.
SW: a 90 and a 210
