it means it will release its reproducing material into the water column and pollute your water. in small tanks it can do some damage.

I believe it is red Gracilaria. Sometimes know as Tang heaven!

Have already ruled out Red Gracilaria. This creature(?) has a definite form to it's growth. It is very tree-like but quite soft & somewhat rubbery to the touch. The entire top bushy area grows from a single stalk/trunk that is quite "meaty". I'm really leaning toward some type of leather coral...but I'm quite new to the SW end of the hobby and have no life experience with SW marine animals/plants. I'm not real great with the photography either; the photo does no justice for "it". The only thing that leads me to believe it may be some type of algae is that aquarium is only 49 days old and "it" is about 3-4" tall already. I would get a better photo of the base but it is growing from a hole in the LR and no way to get a decent angle.

It is an alga. Like I mentioned before, they can be quite complex. Many have very fleshy portions and can even feel downright leathery in texture. If it were a leather coral, you would actually get a reaction from it--it would withdraw, shrink--some kind of reaction.

Ooog, What if this Algae is located in an area that is the center piece of the entire reef setting. How or what would a newbe do per undesired location setting before it gets to a point out of control - biology speaking.
