Can anyone suggest a bottom feeder W/O barbles?

I'm still rinsing. It's messy because some of it floats and makes the water look black. That gets poured off until it doesn't appear any more. I've only started and have most of 3 20 pound bags to do. It doesn't seem too sharp, but is coarse. Did you have any trouble rinsing yours?

Well, it was a PITA to rinse. In my sink I used a tupperware bucket and rinsed approx 5 lbs at a time. I filled the bucket 3/4 of the way up with water and squeezed the sand between my fists for a minute, stirring it up as I went. Then, I poured the nasty water off the top down the drain. I repeated this process 4 or 5 times for each 5 lbs. It worked fairly well but was a bit time consuming.

The only downside to this method was it made the skin on my hands extremely raspy. I know, whine:sad, but it was BAD. If I had to do it again I'd use thick rubber gloves.

I know we're a bit :OT: now but do you like how it looks? What type of lighting are you using. My sand looks "less than black" under my Aqua-Glo's, though it still looks sweet.

I'm surprised that the moon sand would have that effect. I've always heard it was one of the easier substrates for the bottom feeders.

Mostly just wanted to say: That store in Salem is still really good. It takes me almost an hour to get there...but it is worth it. Plus, they're the only ones I know of who sell simple things like ghost shrimp!!! I've bought a lot of fish from them, most recently my Congo tetras and newest boesmanis and I've been pleased:)

Sea World Pet Ctr, right? The guy at Petsmart recommended them tonight when I was buying a couple of Clown loaches. Their barbles look decent so far. Cool fish!!

I'm using a full spectrum light when I get it set up. I'm busy with other things, so still rinsing. I think the tank pictured in the post by Haggisman:

looks great and the dark sand may be the reason his plecos are so comfortable coming out.

Well,....how's it look?

Haggisman's tank does look nice, especially those plecos......gotta' love em' :D

Yes, its Sea World. They've got an awesome SW section too. It makes me drool.
