can Bolivian Rams be kept with...

Cory's and molly's. i am thinking of getting some for my 60 planted tank. thanks. also i have researched them on the net but they don't say what is the best tank mates and what not to really put with them. would like some help from some of you that have kept them..

mollys thrive best in hard water, even brackish water...bolivian rams are best in soft acidic water

so while there may be no compatibility issues, i wouldn't do it

Yes, Nick. As far as I am concern, there is no aggression issue between mollies and rams. And by the way, mollies do not need to be kept in brackish water unless they have been adapted to such conditions. Soft water perhaps can be an issue however if kept in hard water along with bolivian rams, they'll basically be fine. Furthermore, bolivian rams present less problems in comparison to Microgeophagus ramirezi.

no, i didn't think there would be agression issues, however each species prefer water conditions at opposite opposite end of the scale. We want the mollies to thrive, not survive? I've heard so may stories about mollies not being kept without success.

I thought I made it clear that there is no aggression issue between them. I've told you in my previous post, I've kept both with no problems at all. I've done this five years ago and have not returned to livebearers since then.

I was talking about water chemistry and the difference between thrive and survive for these species who prefer water at opposite ends of the spectrum...my question was how did you get on with doing that - did they live life to full expectancy?

thanks, and my water is on the softer side and the molly's seem to be doing just fine.

My water is always hard with a pH of 7.6. Hmmm..they lived for 3-4 years I think. I could barely remember how long most of my fish live.:22_yikes:
