Another way to start a cycle would be to add fish food to it. As it rots, it creates amonia. The best would seriously use the water from the other tank and the filtering media as previous stated. Go to store and get something like Stability from sechem. It adds a boost to the bio filter. I have used it and it does quicken the entire process. Only add fish now if you want to risk killing them. Snails do not like any amonia. It will kill them, and then they will secret something that kills any other inverts in a tank. How long have you actually had the 3 golds in the 5 gallon?

IMO you should just throw your 3 goldfish and the entire contents of their tank into the 55G tank. the bacteria already in your gravel bed will cycle it in no time. also buy some bio-spira, be be warned, it isn't cheap. you could also ask your LFS for some filter media form their tanks.
if your 5-gallon tank with three fishes in there since August without any problem (I mean all your fishes are healthy. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are good.), you can move everything from that small tank to 55-gallon tank (include water from the 5-gallon tank).
You must make sure the temps of water from both tanks are the same. You need also treat for chloride and chloramine with water conditioner first.
For the first week, please don't feed your fish a lot because your new tank may not have enough good bacteria to handle those fishes' wastes.
I called a my local store told and asked them what they thought I sould do. They said they have a product called cycle and I put that in the water then in about a day it will be okay to put the fish in.
I do have aquasafe wich I have not added yet. After you add aquasafe when is it safe to put the fish in? Can the fish go right in after adding Aquasfe?

cycle is pretty much a useless product and won't do squat for your cycle. please stop asking your LFS advice, it is obvious they do not know anything.
you don't need to add aquasafe if your water has been sitting around for 2 days.
bio-spira is IME the only stuff that will really cycle your aquarium, and would be ideal in your case. i'm not sure on dosing, get the largest one you can afford and read the instructions. it will cycle your tank in 1 day, and it's around $20.
I will deff. call around and see if I can find it. To me animals are no lesser then human babies.
