Can I add to my tank?

Thanks about the geos, but.....ugh.....

Picked up 4 yo-yos to build a group for my loner, but they were a little on the small side. I thought they would be ok, but no.......

Soon as they hit the tank the salvini was on them like crazy! I saw him with a mouthful of eat least two the poor new guys.

I tried to act fast and was able to catch 3 of the 4 and relocate to my 20g community. Right now they're sitting on the sand, and don't look visible hurt...

As for the 4th, still no sign, but I'm hoping I'll see him come out of hiding so I can catch and move him before he becomes a snack....

ugh. fail.

UPDATE: 4th yoyo popped out and I was able to move him over to the 20g with the rest (took a long time to net). I hope-hope-hope all 4 will be ok.

I guess plan now is to leave them in the 20g until they get bigger. Pretty sure that makes my 20g overstocked so will try to up the WC's.

UPDATE:
The 4 yoyos that were moved have all died. :( I didn't think they had all gotten munched so maybe just the stress was too much. I decided I did want to keep yo-yos though-though, so I picked up another one who's big enough not to get eaten.

He actually seems pretty happy so far, and is swimming all over the tank, but that hasn't gotten the other one out and about. The original yoyo still just sits under rocks doing nothing -- maybe he's hurting more than I thought. I think I'll try to pick up 2 more and see if that helps out.

As for the rest: the severum seems very happen over in the 55g, and the salvini, honduran, firemouth and raphael are doing their things in the 75g. The 2 new (and smaller geos) are having some problems though. It seems that the resident larger geo has decided he does not like them. They also get regulated pretty strongly by the others, so they've been doing a lot of cowering just the severum used to do.

So what to do......I decided to set up my 10g (was going to be a QT tank) and move the 2 over to it. It took me 2 hours to net out the geos! -- stressful on me, hopefully not too bad on them. So they're in the 10g now relaxing. I put in sand from the 75g, some plants, and filter material that had been running on my 55g. So I don't think I'll have to worry about the tank cycling -- just need to keep an eye on things.

Hopefully things will work out!

G. steindachneri (red hump) are one of the more aggressive of the geos. I've seen your other thread so are you planning to get rid of the salvini and HRPs? If you are maybe add 1 more geo so you have a school of 4 and make sure to rearrange the tank to. Also try to get a female rather than a male. Keep us posted!

UPDATE Again:

Loaches: Picked up a new one (so have 3 now). I realize that 1 is a yoyo, but the other 2 are probably "burmese". Still having trouble with them though. The original is struggling to move and seems on the way out I fear. :( This one was never harassed, so thinking maybe he was just sickly from the start. The other 2 are both active at times, but can't seem to find each other. I'm stumped as to why they aren't swimming together and having a grand loachy time????

Cichlids:

Below is a pic of the 2 small geos in my "grow-out" 10g. They seem ok, although a little bored. Over in the 75g, as predicted, the remaining geo is now the low man on the totem pole and is getting bullied around. Even the fm, who's 1/2 as big, flares his gills and sends Mr. Geo running.

Feedback from my poll is in favor of ditching the centrals for a sev and geos. I'm on-board with that plan, except I'm really digging the fm. He is so fiesty and so brilliantly colored -- really don't want to get rid of him. I'm torn though, because I also really love my sev and want to put him back in the 75g someday. :nilly:

I missed my window to return anything so will have to wait till next weekend. Would really appreciate it, if you all out there could help me with some of my follow up questions below!

QUESTIONS:
Should I get more loaches to give my current ones a group?
Could I do FM, Sev, 4 Geos, 3-5 Burmese/Yoyo Loaches, Raphael?
Logistical Q: What's the best way to net fish out of a large tank. I've been having a beastly time with that...

Thanks much!

For your tank I would either stick with the central or sa cichlids. Sometimes you can mix the two but in your case it isnt working so I would choose the fish you like better and sell the others.

As for netting you can try to net them during a water change, bait them out, or just out smart them (this can be challenging sometimes :) )

Thanks guys for staying with me on this. That tip about netting fast has been a big help (since I'm clearly not able to outsmart my fish).

I think I may go the CA route. I'm so-so on the geos, salvini, and don't really like the honduran so it's coming down to fm vs. sev. The sev I have is quite a looker, but the fm is a looker AND a bad-a__.

If I decide to return the geos, sev, and hrp that would leave me with:
Firemouth (Male), Salvini (Male), Raphael

Could I add anything else without causing new problems? Jack Dempsey? EBJD? Nic? If none of those are a good idea, I'm pretty sure a small school of Silver Dollars would work, yes? What about a few Pictus Cats?

Ok, action has been taken! I returned the 3 geos and the hrp. The LFS guy, who has been very helpful, said that I might have over-reacted a bit. None of my fish were getting beat up bad, just pushed around.

I'm sure that would change down the road as they matured, so I think it was still good to make a change. The next time I have problems, though, I'll try more things to make it work before returning fish.

Moving ahead: plan is to go back tonight at the end of the day and use my store credit to pick up some new fish. Best options I can see are:

1x 4" Blue Acara
4x 1.5" Red Hook Silver Dollars
1x Green Terror (various sizes to choose from)

Any thoughts?

Progress!! (I think) At the store I decided to pick up 4 red rainbowfish (I believe Glossolepis incisus). I was very tempted to get a Blue Acara or GT, but couldn't stand the idea of having more aggression issues.

Once in the tank they seemed a little stiff and scared. Looking at the big picture, I realized maybe my driftwood was too large for the tank and that it was actually causing the fish discomfort by creating too much of a cramped feeling.

Based on that thought, I took out the piece and broke it in two! Then I put the smaller half in my 55g and the larger back in the 75g. This actually solved two problems b/c it created more swimming room in my 75 for the rainbows and cichlids, and created more cave areas in the 55 for my cats, abk, leaf and sev. Rock on!!

Here are some pics:

I think I might be better off with more rainbows, but these ones were very $$$, so I may try to pick up 4 other ones that are large, but not as pricey (like maybe Melanotaenia Lacustris).

Woot!!!
