I have a 37g tank (20 Long footprint, but about twice as tall) with probably around 40 Endlers, fry-adult. I was thinking about clearing the Endlers out and breeding a pair of bn plecos. The water is 6.8-6.9 pH and it's pretty soft, though I don't know the exact hardness. I'd put a cave or two in there, made out of flowerpots and sawed straight down on the side so I could have it against the glass and see into it (like nguyendecting did with his kribs).

I'm just wondering if the Endlers would stop the plecos from breeding and/or eat the babies?

THanks.

Yes you can breed BN's in an endler tank. The male BN will stay with the eggs and fry until there able to survive on there own by which time are to big for endlers to even attempt to eat them. I wouldnt worry bout losses due to predation from endlers. Also endlers will not stop a pair of BN's from breeding.

I have bristlenose breed in a 125gal. with lots of other community fish in it and I raised tons of little ones. If some disappear, it can't be many. I just traded in some surplus babies at two different LFS yesterday and got $190 credit at one and $93 at the other. So I did a little shopping. $100 for more wood and $100 for fish and more food and I still have $150 store credit from my last fish delivery.

I'd recommend adding a handful of crushed coral to your tank or filter to raise/buffer the pH a bit, but no worries about the endler's and BN sharing the tank (aside from overcrowding...)

There are some bristlenose that prefer the low pH. I think L183 is one of them. Very striking fish!

The BN don't need a higher pH, but livebearers are a different matter. Endler's really prefer harder, alkaline water, and the common BN have been bred in aquariums so long they'll pretty much adapt to anything.
