The op wants to cut the tanks apart and use the glass to merge them and take the 2 20g into one solid 40g. Or at least tjats how it sounds. Yes you can do it, much easier to buy a 40g tank though

If Austin's right, yeah, it's going to be *much* more trouble than it's worth, especially if you can catch a $1 per gallon sale.
