I have a 29 gallon planted tank. You can look at my gallery to see what it looks like. I have more plants then the picture, got 2 bigger ones since the picture. But you get the idea. I have 2 L-144 pleco's and I wanted to know if I can get one or a pair of German Blue Rams. My water parameters are this. Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrite 0ppm, Nitrate 5-10ppm in form of NO3 for the plants. KH 7 and PH 7.2-7.4 with CO2 injection. 80 degrees is the temp. If I can't what would I need to do to change it? Lower the PH is all I can think, Would I go about doing this by adding some RO water? And if I did how much RO would I need in a 29 gallon to drop it? And to where should I drop it. I don't want to hurt the pleco's though.

I have had blue rams for about 3 months(so I'm no expert)i use city water and the pH has never effected my rams they are always spawning. i have read a lot about rams needing low pH but i think tank bread rams are much more tolerant i don't think you will have a prob. I'm sure their are people here with a lot more experience that will correct me if I'm wrong .. good luck i love my rams

You would probably only run into problems if you end up with wild caught rams (but you would know that before buying them) so I would say go for it. GH/KH are more important measurements than pH but again you should be fine. No need to change the water IMHO.

Hmmm. All RO scares me...there's no dissolved solids at all in the water which is the complete opposite of tap. Be very careful acclimating them.

Actually, RO water can still have 20ppm or so hardness.

If you want to soften your water with RO or pure water get the GH around 75-125 ppm and pH around 6.0-6.5 if possible (for antibacterial properties). An acidic pH isn't necessary as mine spawn in 7.8-8.0 and a GH of 300+ ppm and they are 50% wilds. Their fertility is 95% or more all the time.
