So as the title state, can i grow plants in a bucket? Specifically corkscrew vals, in an inch of gravel, with liquid fertilizers, and a 15w fluorescent spiral bulb?
I just need a way to mature their root systems before i put them into my tank, because i have poor quality lighting in the back of the tank. I have the eclipse hood which has two fluorescent tubes placed in the front, so there's not enough light that reaches the back. I have diy co2, liquid fertilizer, flourite substrate, 26watts total of light over a 29 gallon tank, and a established tank.

Absolutely.

Edit; Provided the light requirements are met. I'd spring for the 26w bulb myself, but that depends on the size/depth of the bucket.

Sp and Ms: Please excuse me here and please correct me if I an wrong.

You have correctly addressed Adroit's question but, IMHO, his question does not relate to his goal.

Once he has thriving vals with significant root systems and places them in his tank the vals will begin dying due to insufficient lighting.
The shock to the root systems will significant due to the replanting and some root system mass will be immediately lost.

In addition, although I do not have much experience with vals, every val which I have transplanted has virtually melted down before commencing permanent growth. With the insufficient lighting his vals may not even recover from the initial meltdown.

I'm willing to place them somewhere else if possible, but i thought if i get the leaves to grow long enough for them to reach enough light from the back than it wouldn't die with the little light as of right now.

Those are good points jones. I'd be less concerned with the die-off(root will be minimal unless they're badly mishandled, or done too soon, and above-root die-off is just fine, the root system can recover it easily and quickly). The lack of light will be a problem, and they may continue to die once being placed in the tank rather than going through a short shock period and then continuing to grow.

I'd suggest upgrading your lighting on the main tank before you move the plants, if you do this.
