Can I have in my 35 gallon tank 2 Discus Cichlids? Will they do fine without plants in the aquarium?

ive seen discus in non planted tanks, they still need plenty of cover and hiding spots.

i dont know about 2 in a 35g though someone else can answer that.

I wouldnt suggest discus especialy if you are new to things, they require lots of maintnence and work. I would stick with just 3 angels as stated in your other post, or is this a different tank?

It should be OK as long as the fish like each other, so a mated pair would be better or you could get the smallest juveniles you can find and then theyll be able to sort out teritorial issuses when there smaller and have more room to hide. the general rule for discus is to have either a mated pair, a single fish or five or more. do not set this tank up with two discus if you do not have an extra tank to temporarily house one should territorial issues deem that nessesary and your are not prepared to set up a 55g or larger tank to move them into within a month. As far as stocking goes, you could even add a school of neons/cardinals and a cleanup crew, but stocking is not the issue, it's teritorialism, one of two reasons why large tanks are better for these fish. the second reason is that they release growth emiting horemones into the water wich can kill all the fish in the tank, so DO NOT set up this tank if you are not prepared to do daily water changes.

daily or at least every other day...

i have a mating pair in a 28 G and they are happy as can be, 2 plants, bare bottom, and a rock. changing water every other day will be a minimum though, they poop alot and it makes a mess, especially during feeding. i would recommend getting a larger tank than a 35, because these fish are addicting, you WILL want more, trust me. but be prepared to make a commitment to thhose fish.
