CAN I HAVE TOO MUCH FILTRATION ?

Hey gang. I've got an Emperor 400 biowheel filter on my 46 gal tank. There seems to be a lot of sediment (?) always in the water. I was thinking of adding an Aquaclear 70 filter to the mix to try and clear things up. I know its more than I need, but is there such a thing as too much filtration ? Thanx for your help.

Not at all, the more the better! Except when dealing with smaller aquariums with filters rated for 10x the GPH needed...

As long as the current being generated isn't too much for the fish, over filtration isn't a problem in my opinion.

Agee, the real concern is amount of water movement...if not too great then no issues.

no such thing as too much filtration, only too much flow....i run 2 cannisters on all my tanks 100l+

I agree, one cannot have too much filtration, just current which can be dealt with by using a spray bar, having the discharge go against the glass, or diffused by ornaments.

i have ran an ac 110 on a 30 gallon and it worked great . it was a hex though

I AGREE, BUT I GUESS IF U WERE TO HAVE A TANK WITH SHARKS AND CATFISH, THEY WOULD REALLY ENJOY THE CURRENT!

should be fine. try adding some floss to the filter should help with polishing the water.
