Can I Keep a Musk Turtle with my 2 Blackmoors

You will need good filtration because turtles are notoriously messy eaters or you can remove the turtles at feeding time and put them in a different container like a dish pan to feed them and then put them back in the tank after they are fed.

Yes, i have been reading about feeding and this seems like the least messy way to feed them also i think this is good as they wont compete for food with my fishies :) thankyou.

I have another question hehe.... My thermometer in the tank is sayin 75f and if seems to stay around this temperature i know this is ok for turts but is this healthy for my fish????????????????????? if not how do i make it colder?? Thanks :)

75 degrees Fahrenheit is just right for fancy goldfish.

That temp is fine for adult turtles too. If they were babies you'd want to bump it up a few degrees. As long as the water temp is in the low to mid 70's they'll be good.

Lupin, if those goldies are as fast as you say they are at feeding time then they should be fine with the turtles. Just keep an eye on them. Like I said, MOST stinkpots on non-predatory towards fish. Heck I keep mine with a pleco, a female convict cichild and 10+ Giant Danios. I haven't lost a single fish and actually my danios have been breeding.

UVB lighting is not of much importance to this turtle seeing how it's a non-basking species but it couldn't hurt to have it. I use it in my tank even though the turtles never bask. Of course, some turtles like to bask more than others. This species really only does it on cold mornings in the wild but if you're keeping a consistant water temperature they probably won't bask very often.

Make sure you have plenty of driftwood/caves for them to climb and explore on. They don't do a great deal of swimming and mostly walk on the bottom. They don't like very deep water so make it easy for them to reach the surface to breath without much effort. You can accomplish this with stacked stones or with angled driftwood.

Turtles are messy animals so remember to at the very least double the ammount of filtration compared to how much water you have in the tank. For example if you have 50 gallons of water in the tank get a filter that is rated for at least 100 gallons. Over all my years of keeping turtles I find canister filters are the best followed by sumps at keeping up with all the waste they produce.

My pair of stinkpots.

Awww there soooo cute !! what are their names?? thanks for the tips that will be very helpful :).. regarding the UV lamp, i had a UV light in my old tank and the fish were very lively and the male was harrasing the female real bad! so i would rather not have one as it caused alot of stress to my female moor. do you think this will be ok??

Because the behviour is sort of obvious lol. They dark one is always up the lighter ones backside!! I told the man at the aquatic centre this and he said their getting frisky.

Thanks and no, they don't have names. Out of my 7 turtles the only ones that have names are my 4 box turtles.

UVB does help bring out the colors in some fish and reptiles. Like I said it isn't entirely necessary to use with this species but I use it anyways because they are exposed to UVB rays in the wild and I don't want to take that away from them in captivity. Plus I have live plants in the tank with them.
