Can i make one of these?

so if I adhere it to the back of the tank, but water does leak back there anyway, there shoudnt be any problems right? Id love to be able to hide the equipment from view. This will be something for my next tank (funny, I think of that as when I get one, not if!!), I dont think i like the idea of my fish hanging out in a big rubbermaid for the week or two it would take to work on this.... or is that not so bad?
 
rbishop, do you happen to have a pic you could post of your tank? Id love some visuals for ideas!
 
I am finishing the background for one of my tanks now. Will get the camera out this weekend. Have done these in the past and just now starting to convert all tanks to the 3D look.
 
you could build your background before hand and have it completely ready, then when you move, install it. this way your fish will only be in the buckets for a few days tops.
I found a site that shows how to make the background into a filter. they installed the background a few inches in front of the back glass and sealed all the edges and bottom with silicone the made holes one both sides of the background, one side was a large hole or several small holes that can be coverd with some kind of screen that would blend in. these were the intake. on the other end they made a hole the right size so a powerhead output tube would fit tight. then they filled the space between the glass and background with foam pieces, like the foam in your filter. now you have an invisible built in filter. the key to this though is to make your backgound thin so you aren't using up too much tank space.
 
wow! what a neat idea....i suppose thats a bit overkill on my little tanks, huh? Sounds like a good excuse to try for a bigger one though!
