Like the title says, can I?

Many people use rubbermaid tubs for transport, quarantine, and for raising fry. They are not the prettiest but are easy to set up and store.

Absolutely. I have several and use them for all kinds of purposes - water changes, QT, emergency fish tanks, temporary homes, etc..... They are awesome. Drop a heater in there, hang a hob on the side and you've got a fish tank.
If you talking about the round roped tubs what kind of HOB do you use? Only filter I've been able to use on the round ones are the whisper internals.

I use the run of the mill penguin hobs on the standard tubs you'd buy at Walmart. It just depends on how much water you put in them.

If you are putting tropical fish in QT, then yes you will need a heater. If you are putting fish that can tolerate cold water, then no.
