don't over do the water changes though or you'll just be prolonging the cycle.

Water changes have virtually no effect on prolonging a cycle as most of the good bacteria resides in the filter media,substrate and any decorations in the tank....

Priority one is to keep your fish safe and healthy during the cycle...Do however many water changes it takes to keep ammonia and nitrites at or even better below .25ppm . This might mean having to do them daily or in some cases twice a day until your cycle finishes.

I agree. Levels over .25 ppm can have permanent effects on your fish. Wc's will not kill a cycle or prolong it at all.

Not to be a &*^*($$%# but if you wanted your fish to live, why didn't you do a fishless cycle?

Not to contradict echo but I cycled a 110G with 7 Sterbai; 7 GN's 7 QA's and 7 Neon tetras and never observed a concentration of ammonia or nitrite.

Add lots of quick growing plants. They'll absorb the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. It's called a silent cycle. Just float them. If you can get some used filter media from an established tank take a bit and stick it behind the filter media in your filter. I've cycled a few tanks like this using plants, ornaments and filter media from my main tank. It works really well. Good luck.

Forgot to mention, the addition of an airstone for oxygen will also help the fish.

the only thing salt will do is make your fish slimey, which might help their scales but not their gills....don't over do the water changes though or you'll just be prolonging the cycle.

exactly. what its for to help the fish get a bit irritated to help its slime coat.however you shouldnt need it.
