Hi Friends !

I have the Following Filtration in my 4 Feet Frontosa Tank -

1. 1 Eheim 2217 - With the Filter Media that came along - thats 6 Blue Filter Pads (Coarse Sponge) and 1 White Filter Pad - fine sponge
2. 1 Eheim 2217 - With the Filter Media Set - Ehfimech (Ceramic Cylinders) and lots of Eheim Substrat Pro (4 liters)
3. 1 Eheim Internal Filter - Pickup 2010 Filter which looks like this - http://www.eheim.de/eheim/inhalte/index.jsp?key=liniendetail_27471_ehen

Now my question is - Can I use Eheim Substrat Pro in the above Internal Filter too ? Actually I have some Substrat Pro left unused from the Filter Media Set that I bought for the 2217 ( I couldnt put all the substrat pro in the 2217 as it wont close) and I thought I'll use it in the internal filter, when I take it out for cleaning.

This Internal Filter works in the following way - The Impeller is placed at the bottom (intake) of the Filter and the water is pushed thru the Flter Media inside the Filter Box. Will using Substrat Pro instead of the Filter Sponge that came in with the Filter be a better choice or should I just use the original media itself for mechanical filtration ?

Kindly guide me Friends...
Thanks a lot 1

You can put the Substrat Pro in the internal filter. Bacteria will grow in the media and provide biological filtration as long as there is water movement across it. It may be a little less efficient than in the canisters. From what I've read, the bacteria growing in sintered glass media grow better in complete darkness, and the internal filter housing does not look like it's dark enough.

just give it a try and seee how it works for ya cant harm anything.

You also have the option of using the extra substrate in your other 2217. I think if they were my filters I'd put 2 or 3 of the blue sponges in each filter over the noodles, then put the substrate on top of those, half in each canister, then the white filters on the top. You'll have a spare blue sponge or two. The pick-up will still be cycled and ready to go if you need to quarantine anyone.

Hi Friends !
