can i use fishing weights to hold down plants?

All of the plant weights that I have found are much narrower than the older ones. So I need 4 or 5 to keep a plant down. I have used fishing sinkers, but what I use most now is a small rock and a rubber band.

Actually those plant weights are made of misc. metals too, if they were still lead, they would have warnings all over them, especially if they are for sale in California.

All the ones I get say contains lead. I don't live in CA and I think any lead content has to be declared.

I use the hexagonal ceramic tubes that are sold as bio media.
4-5 of them in a ring around the base of the plant with a plastic cable tie.

2-3 will usually hold down a bundle of bunch plants or floaters.
