Can I use this bulb

No, you can't increase watts just by changing the bulb :( you can use a higher wattage bulb in your strip, but it will only put out the 40 watts of energy.

You can get a different bulb to change the light COLOR though.

It probably wouldnt even light.

In order to run a VHO bulb, you need a VHO ballast.

BTW- running a 110 watt bulb in a normal strip light made for 40 watt bulbs will cause all sorts of overheating problems.

That would work as it has a new ballast in it. Also look at the company AH Supply. They sell kits to retro fit your exisiting lighting as well as giving instructions on how to set things up.

So since you were worried about overheating then you probably wouldn't recommend going with one of these

It can be done, you just should take some precautions about overheating. Ive had much lower wattage bulbs (36 watt bulbs) melt those strip lights.

With some additional air vents cut in the hood, and possibly even a small fan, you shouldnt have any issues.

And I second looking at Ahsupply. Ive used their retrofits inside normal strip lights quite a few times.
