Sorry I didn't see a breeder thread but I was wondering if you could help me anyway. I had my first spawn of angels 3 days ago. I started with a slate covered in eggs, by the next morning most were on the bottom of the aquarium and by today they all are! What happened? Any help would be appreciated...

Were you trying to parent-raise the eggs, or did you remove the slate to a hatching tank? Do you have substrate or bare-bottom?

Ok, first things first. How old are the Angels? When did you get them? What size tank are they in? What else is in the tank? And finally, did you remove the slate to another tank or leave them to the parents to raise?
Second thoughts are most Angel parents eat their first few batches of eggs due to immaturity, sometimes they never grow out of this habit thus forcing the fish owner to try to raise the babies on their own if so desired. When this is desired, the eggs are laid on the slate or another easily removable object, then once laid and fertilized, it is removed and placed into a breeding tank. Here, the water is treated with methylene blue or something of the sort to prevent fungus from getting to the eggs, and fixing an airstone to softly brush air over the eggs constantly.... this is usually done by the parents of the eggs by simply fanning them with their fins.

if they moved while still being wigglers and the parents are still in the tank, chances are that the parents moved them, they do this by collecting the wigglers (non-free swimming) in their mouth and moving them to a new location.
If the parents are not in there then once fry are just coming out of wiggler stage thay will drop off the thing that is holding them This too is common and nothing to be worried about. If you have gravel in the tank however, the changes are that a lot of the fry will get killed in it or that their food will go down into the gravel and so is not accessable to the fry.
Another thing that may be happening is... when the fry have become free swimming, any stress, noise or too many bubbles will cause the fry to go to the bottom and even hide in the corners or behind a slate, the same thing will happen shortly after and during a water change.
The last thing that i can think of is that there is no light. A free swimming angelfish fry will be more active and swim around the whole tank if it has more light.

ok I have had them 2 weeks. They have spawned multiple times before is what I was told. I was trying to let the parents raise the young. They are in a 55 gallon all by themselves and it is a barebottom tank. I think that answers all the questions.
They started laying the eggs right about the time I was going to bed and by the time I actually made it there there was alot of eggs all over the slate. When I woke up and checked them there was only about 30 and by the time I got back home they were all off the slate and some were on the bottom that I could see. They were clear on the slate but now they have turned white. The female is also extremely aggressive and has been beating on the male to the point he hides in a corner of the tank behind a piece of slate.

white eggs mean that they are either unfertilised or have died some other way.
I would suggest 1 of 2 things for next time...
either
1. Take the parents out as soon as the eggs have been fertalised properly, put an airstone close to them so as to create a gentle, steady brush of water past them and treat with meth blue. (Depending on the concentration sold in your LFS you will have to add more or less of this. It will probably say on the bottle. Over time you will learn the perfect quantity). Perform a daily water change and create some infusoria for the tank using a small ammount of pototo peel and water under 60Watt bulb. When the water has clouded and then gone clear, add a little to the tank 4 times a day and at each waterchange. Once hatched and free swimming keep up the daily water changes and feed with brineshrimp, mashed egg and water, dust flake food and other fry foods.

2. Leave the parents in but add few guppys in there as well. This should mean that the angelfish are much less violent to each other and have lovely snacks of guppy fry to feed on. Meth blue is not needed as the parents should keep them fungus free but do feed them the same types of food as mentioned above. Keep an airstone in the tank but in one corner where the fry are not.

they have spawned, but have they spawned and successfully raised fry? jwdd is correct in the set up in which way you decide you want to go but I'm a little concerned over the "females" behavior. Are you sure you don't have 2 females there?october004 said:
I guess anything is possible as far as the 2 female thing. They were sold to me as a pair and the person said that they had successfully raised several fish from them. Is there a sure fire way to tell?
