I have seen the term "shimmy" frequently, and if I am correct, it means that the fish doesn't sit still but wags back and forth. Can some one explain what causes a fish to shimmy and what you do for the condition? Thanks!

Well, it could be several reasons, from stress, to dominance to spawning behavior to illness.

I have always thought it was spawning behavior. I have just seen my mbuna do it. What kind of fish are doing the "shimmy".

"ShimmyA stress-related symptom in which a fish remains in one position while wagging it’s body from side to side. Common among Livebearers, especially Mollies, when water conditions are not within the parameters for the fish’s needs."
from age of aquariums. http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_glossary.php

I am relatively new to the hobby and there is so much to learn! I like to be aware of what to look for when I observe the fish. I didn't know what ich looked like until last week when I saw some clown loaches at the fish store with it. I realize now that ich is obvious, but I was picturing the specks as being far smaller and harder to see. I have a cory that had a cloudy eye last week but it cleared up with water changes. He doesn't sit still for long and I was hoping he wasn't shimmying. But unless its been well explained its difficult to know what to look for. He definitely doesn't look like he is having a seizure. Just a busy little guy I guess!
