I am interested if someone can positively ID this cichlid for me. The LFS had a couple but I want to make sure I know what I am bringing home. Thanks!

Female Peacock, probably an Aulonocara sps, but I can't be sure which one.

Actually, it's an immature male. Females don't have eggspots on their anal fin. Probably an Auloncara, possibly a Haplochromis.

Eggspots are not a reliable means of sexing Africans, but an immature male is a possibility. Only way to be sure is to vent it.

Why not?

Color/pattern in the dorsal fin also indicates a male.
Not really, I've had tons of peacock juvies that all had that coloration, some were female.
