i feel sorry for my male betta :( he always seems lonely, and he keeps building bubble nests.

would i be able to keep a male and a female together permanently? i havent got any other tanks to seperate them.

anyone else keep them together?

In a big enough tank, yes.

How big is your tank?

it is an absolutely variable situation that has nothing to do with tank size. most often times, a male and female betta will fight as 2 males would unless they are ready to mate, and then need to be separated afterward. the only way i could see tank size factoring in is if the tank was several hundred gallons.

i've got my male and female betta together, they chase each other from time to time, but they seem ok.

Make sure you have something so the female can hide

From what I've learned over the years, it's a crapshoot. That basically some male-female bettas MIGHT NOT fight & kill each other, but sooo many will that it's not necessarily a chance that I'd be willing to take, if I liked bettas.

If you don't have anywhere to put the female in case it doesn't work out, then don't do it. Bettas are very unpredictable. It's possible that they wouldn't fight, but most likely they would, and the female would end up dead.

I wouldn't do it in a ten gal tank.
I know it worked out for me in a thirty gal to keep a male and a group of females.
