Can you Keep Demasoni with tropheus?

Demasoni would also get bloat if they ate too many meaty foods. The mbuna and the tropheus eat the same thing so there are no diet issues.

:iagree:. The issues here are aggression and space. Both of these species are very aggressive toward conspecifics and you need at least 12 of each to spread that aggression. Then with this high number needed, you also need a large tank space for them; as stated above.

I have Africans from all 3 lakes in my 55. Kenyi's, Socofoli, 1 Demosani (f), Yellow labs etc... I have 18 total in my 55. I wouldn't add Tropheus into that mix, nor would I add a male Demosani. Simply due to the aggression they tend to harbor. What Demosani's lack in size, as they get a max of 4" or less, they more than make up for in aggression. Tis why I only have the lone female.

Tropheus as far as their aggression levels are the same when they pair off and spawn. "Tank killers," I believe was the word that was used. After being told by several Cichlid breeders, they should be species only tank.

As for the dietary needs of each species, I make my own food that covers each dietary requirement. On top of keeping large, leaved live plants for the herbivores to snack on.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the idea of having Tropheus in a one species only tank.

By all means if you are going to mix them (Tropheus and Demasoni) do not feed the meats stick to a veggie diet completely.. Both will bloat and trust me they will if you are set on setting this up, feed true spirulina flakes not that crap that has spirulina listed as the fouth or fifth ingredient, HBH super 8 veggie is great also they have a soft spirulina pellet, also omega one super veggie is good as well, to supplement you could add zucchini, de-shelled peas and romaine lettuce as a treat to offset the same old stuff everyday feedings..

I have 1 male demasoni in my 55 and he's a punk but doesn't bother anyone too much. Demasoni and trophues don't pair off but will get more aggressive when they breed. I think both species could handle each others aggression, just have a back up plan just in case.

I had two demasoni in a 90 gallon with two dubosii. I put them all in the tank at the same time to ensure that no one would have territories set up but as soon as i put them in the tank one of the demasoni and one of the dubosii squared off. before i could even get them out of the tank the demasoni had no back fin. I tried putting it in my 10 gallon hospital tank but it was to far gone yet the other demasoni had no issues with the 2 dubosii instead the one dubossi killed the other so seems like it depends on the individual fish

Yes it does most of the time.. that's why Africans are great at times, they seem to be thinking differently..
