Can you put a canopy on a rimless tank?

So, I know what you're thinking..."why would you want to?".

So this is the thing. I'm getting a new tank. Big, really big. Starfire glass. I'm going to keep this tank forever. Sometimes I like rimless, open top tanks. But other times, I like a canopy. If I got a rimless tank, is it structurally safe to put a canopy on it one day? That way it's the most versatile.

I have never had a tank that "does" have a rim...The canopys just slotted on top of the tank with purpose made guides inside the edge of the canopy...the 110 i made had no rim, and i built the hood to sit on top of it, and use wooded block guides to centre it and keep it in place...

I'd say sure, have a canopy... just be careful

I wouldn't put a canopy over a rimless tank, just because it would kind of defeat the whole purpose of having a rimless tank, IMO. But you can do whatever you want.

I was more curious about if it could be harmful to the glass...I recognize that the major reason for a rimless tank is to go open top...but if you're going to have a tank for 15 years, you don't necessarily know which way you'll always want to go. So, it'll be nice to have the option.
