Er, not for nothin' or nothin'... people actually watch this stuff?
Also as for whoever said Americans have too much of this stuff, I agree. It's like awards shows. And, did you know there actually IS and awards show for the best awards show? Oi Vey!
I agree, no I don't actually watch this stuff, didn't even know it was goin' on until I read this thread and its companion.
I hear you about awards banquets, they're nice in principle, you know, to be recognized for excellence in your field for excellence. But they don't need to be televised, IME. But that's just me, I don't think that I speak for a majority on this one. As I posted in the "War of the Worlds" thread, I don't care about the personal lives of the stars, and that extends to awards. All I care about is that they make entertaining movies. I'm glad that there's a platform for them to recognise talent, but from what I've seen in the little bits of awards shows that I've seen (usually at the urging of girlfriend/wife

) they tend to be more political then talent based. But more importantly, I don't care if someone's an Oscar winner or not, how many movies have you seen staring "Oscar nominee/winner 'insert name' " that completely sucked? Plenty, no doubt.
Of course, that's just an example. I've never been a fan of awards ceremonies, even when I was a recipitent. They usally involve a lot of sitting around, maybe there's a brief moment of interest if there's a good speaker, then you get your brief moment (or let down) and back to waiting for the danged thing to end.
