canister filter = easier water change? and can you use one canister for 2 tanks?

I like this idea.

I was under the assumption that pet stores used one giant filter for all their tanks?
Most pet stores do use one giant filter.Generally they use a large sump. If you pump water freely into a tank and then allow it to flow out of the tank via an overflow there is no risk of flooding. Canisters dont do the same thing because of the closed/pressurized system.

+1.

It's why it's *such* a good idea to quarantine fish you buy from fish stores, because everything is filtered either by a single sump, or everything on one wall is filtered by a single sump, and if one fish has something, they all are at least at risk. The ones I've seen are plumbed so sump feeds to top tank, which feeds to the tank below it, and so on, until the bottom one feeds to the sump.
