Canister Filter for 7gal tank

yeah but I think that 160 GPH is a little high for a 7 gallon tank though. And I'm not sure I would trust any filter on E-bay. Its way too easy to rip someone off, or if it stops working 3 months later your basicly screwed.

Well, I think I am just going to buy one of these filters:
Eheim 2213 116gph
Eheim Ecco 2232 not sure of flow but for aquariums around 35gal
Fluval 105 rated for 25gal tank.

If I'm not mistaken, the flow rates are for the filters max output without media (correct me if I'm wrong). I will have approx. 30" of head plus I could put a ball valve on the return and knock those numbers down. According to some, a 10X factor would be around 70gph. That should be obtainable shouldn't it? Let's have the feed back. I don't want to restrict the pump too much so if this isn't possible then let me know. Thanks.

I use the Fluval 304 on my 29 gallon tank and the flow rate isn't near as strong as they claim. So I am sure the 105 would be fine. Add extra media to the baskets (lots of sponge). Also aim the out flow against the tank side. That will also help slow it down quite a bit.

Why is a UGF harder to clean than a canister? IMO, it would be easier. Use a gravel vacuum with each water change. All filters gather dirt, they all need cleaning. How hard is a canister to clean. I have one. It is a pain, as I have to carry it accross the kitchen to the sink, dripping water the whole way, rinse oiut numerous sponges and ceramic media. Refill, set top on again, restart. How is that easier than a UGF?

If the OP doesn't want a UGF than that is cool as well. But other than the up tube, it does leave a very open tank, with simply a pump outside the tank which can easily be hidden.

totally, a ugf would be a great choice. It would be even more compact than the canister. Even though UGF have lost popularity over the last couple years, they're still a reliable and functional.
