not new used but what your getting is used to. if i was going to buy a filter it sure wouldnt be a fluval.

I have to agree with MG on this its just an ok deal. Its used! yes you know where its coming from but How often did he clean it etc. if it breaks the day after you set it up a or a week a month will you still feel the same.
I treat this as you would lending/borrowing money to a friend don't do it

You got lucky on the LFS deals, I search once a week. And ive been back in the hobby for about half a year now since a 3 year hiatis.
My other LFS guys was pushing a cascade really really hard. It looked cheap though.

on the 304 im getting from this deal, is it better to use the spray bar or angled spout thing? whats more popular?
if you are pumping co2, use the spray bar. If you aren't, it just depends on how much current you want in the water.
Guess thats why I drive a toyota bnoble lol.
Thanks Jeffrey, I decided to use the spray bar anyhow. It was all thread taped and nicely and cleanly hooked up'ed already. And after carrying the 55g hex down three flights, 2 blocks and up a flight. (moved from 1bdr on 3rd floor, down a complex to a 2bdr on the 2nd floor. For my first born were expecting.) I was ready to just hook it up. But with being a hex and angleling it right, It works really well. gives the fish a calm spot in the middle. Its a custom spray bar the height of the tank. I have it in the back corner going top to bottom and the heater after it. So it circulates heated water around the tank.
I also ended up getting the 305 for 50.00 instead of the 304. He brang it over, cleaned it. Installed it and its full of top dollar media. Im super impressed. Still love my 6+ yrs old AC 300 HOB but the fluval rocks.

I dont think tho with the lil spout elbow thing that the circulation would be there, Its a hex with the spray bar going from the top to the bottom. It blows in a circle of the tank.
