canister filter question

So I've done some looking and it looks like the EHEIM is the best bet! Other than my LFS is there a good place to buy one as far as price goes? I am not really keen on the idea of buying used filters.

I have a 50 gallon and there are two EHEIMs I'm looking at. The 2215 is for 92 and the 2217 is for I think 92-159. I am currently using a HOB 30-50 could I keep the HOB and add the smaller EHEIM and be ok? I am not going to overload the tank but do want to have a full family in there!

If you are planing on planting the 50 gallon go with the 2217 if no plants the 2215 and hob should be ok.

:) Good choice. There are a number of on-line sites that are trustworthy.

Yes you can have a mixed multi-filter setup. Keep in mind you have a different turnover rate for HOB's. Ideally your target is 8/10 times per hour. At present, your HOB is on the small side but combined with the new Eheim you should be OK. Later you can upgrade the HOB to maybe an AC 110 or Emperor 400 so that either filter can maintain the tank in case of failure. T"
