I have a rena XP2 on my 30 gal long and I hate it.
It does not keep the water clear at all. Put my hand down by the intake, can't hardly feel it pulling at all, plus when I clean it out doesn't even seem dirty. I added an airstone, and I have a python so I just clean it out often. I have 2 fantail goldfish and a snail in it.
I have two XP3 on my 125 gal tank and I like them pretty well. They are quiet. They are flexible in the way you can install them. I don't care for the light blue color of the intake though. The other thing is I think they are a pain to clean and put together. I have never used other canister models though so maybe it is comparable. For one thing you have to carry it full to the sink to clean it. It weighs a ton IMO if you are going across the house with it, especially lifting out from under a cabinet. but then again I'm flimsy ha ha If the impeller is not just right and the boxes stacked just so, and the lid on tweaked to the full moon of the first Tuesday that falls on the 8th LOL it will rattle and be full of air and have to start all over. I frequently end up with the siphon broke and have to start over with that. Ive had it 2 years and still have to use the manual when I set it up. But like I said, I am probably a little technologicaly impaired.
