Canister Filter Suggestions

The one thing Eheim has over everybody else is "SILENCE"
If you can deal with noises like rattling, humming and what not then the Eheim is not a must have.

I'm sure Eheims are probably silent as stated, but the part about rattling, humming, etc for all others is a statement I disagree with. I have both a Cascade 1200 on one tank and the massive FX5 on another. Both are as silent as the day they were set up, and on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as cost and supposed reputation go. There are good and bad of EVERY brand.

I have a magnum 250 canister filter that has been working for over a year with no problems at all. Plus when my tank busted and I wasn't home my dad put the engine in a bucket of water for 2 days, and it still works fine.

well so far i've delt with Marineland C-220, Ehiem 2211, Magnum 250, and Rena XP2. of them i found the XP2 the easiest to open and clean but felt the design let to much water by pass for (would still use them though). the C-220 i likes and second esiest to clean but the hoses are not that flexible and no spray bar. good canister and it filter really well and if i was given a good deal would buy one again. the 2211 i have it a great little canister filter for my smaller tanks. so far haven't cleaned it yet so can say anything about it but i do like the ehiems so far and will probably get two 2213 for my next tank. the magnum 250 i had on a turtle tank and it was a work horse. i got it used so had to refurbish it first but all the important parts worked. my feeling is most canister filter that people use are good, you just have to chose the one you like the best.

This is why I didn't use any other product names, I didn't want to start a war :)
But I have owned just about every other canister out there except for the FX5 and the Ocean clear which both look like great filters, my point is I had "issues" with most other brands with humming, rattling, bypass, leaking. My bad luck I guess huh?

Again not naming any one else just giving props where props are due!

No harm, no foul mott;). I was just throwing in my 2 cents too!

Good pickup dshipl01.

Okay! Thanks for all the help, folks! I think I'll probably go with either a Marineland or a Eheim, depending on what kind of deal I can get.
