I know that the actual flow rate on a canister filter depends on the media used. However, I am confused about the ratings in my Fluval manual. Check out the specks on page EN-6

Let's take the 405 as an example: "Pump Output" is listed as 340 gph, but "Filter Circulation" is listed as 225 gph. In terms of figuring out how many times the aquarium is being filtered each hour, I am reading "Filter Circulation" as the number to use. I read turnover as 4.09x (225/55).
Opinions on which number to use? How do other manufacturers list their specs on this?
