canister filters

thank you, what do you mean not quite enuff
 
I mean with cichlids being the messy eaters that they are, the 405 never does quite clear all the little bits of left over food from the water. Basically the 405 has plenty of biological filtering capacity,but not enough mechanical capacity.

Before I added the c-360 I tried a power head with a quick filter on it... between it and the 405 the water was clear. But the quick filter required rinsing off every day or two or it quit working.

With zero bypass and larger media trays than they 405, the c-360 is enough by itself. Since I already have the 405 hooked up I am running both and the water stays crystal clear. I haven't decided yet if I am going to keep running both filters with a normal bio/mechanical filter load, or switch the 405 to pure mechanical and just load it up with floss like I have read about others doing.

Currently in both filters they have... mechanical coarse sponge, 2 layers of bio media (ceramic or bio balls), and a final layer of floss.
 
I have a fluval 405, two 305s, and a 205 on my tanks. I love all the filters. They keep my tank super clean and are easy to maintain. You can buy a 305 brand new on ebay for 67shipped. and 405 a bit more shipped. If you wanted to run two 305s, one on each side of the tank it would work great. I have a 405 on my 75 gallon turtle tank and we all know how messy turtles are, it keeps it crystal clear.
