Canister Filters

I am planning my next freshwater tank, probably 60-70 gallons. I was thinking of two canister filters, but on a visit to a LFS, I was told they are very hard to service and I should go with HOT's. Is that really true? How hard is to clean them? He also said Eheim parts are hard to come by??????

I recently switched from a Magnum 350 to an XP3. The XP3 is much, much easier to maintain than the Magnum. It's quieter, has noticeably more flow (even though they're both rated @ 350 gph) and appears much sturdier. The Magnum 350 is just a larger version of the HOT.

I would go with 2 fluval 204's. I picked one up a week ago have no regrets on my purchase. One bit of caution though, if you buy a canister you will most likely never go back to H.O.B. type filter. Very easy setup, hard to service....not at all

I use a eheim 2213. The guy at Big Al's talked me into it. Glad he did. Very quiet, efficient and provides excellent filtration. It seemed to me that Big Als had all the parts needed to service the filter, if needed. If your plantying the tank I think a canister is the way to go also. As for the maintenance, I looked into it and its not that bad. After all if your going to keep a 60-70 G tank as a hobby this is just one more thing involved with the pleasure and reward of the hobby !! Research what you want and listen to everyone's opinion and you should be able to find what you want !! Good luck !!
