Canister filters!

canister filters

I like the filstar filters just because its very easy to set up your filter for the specific problem you may have I like the xp-2 for my 55g

I absolutely LOVE FilStars. I have two XP2 canisters. One is fairly new, the other three years old, and both have been completely trouble free. The newer models come with tubing and spraybar/output nozzles that click together, it's a nice little detail. Maintenance is super easy, the media is decent quality and they're really well constructed. Eheims, Fluvals and other canisters do the job just as well, but overall for price and quality I'd choose FilStar hands down.

I have a fluval 404, and I haven't been too impressed w/ it. My primer was warped when i bought it, so I have a hard time priming it. It also clogs really easy at the intake. Easy to fix, but can be annoying. I like it, it just frustrates me. I'll probably get a different brand if I ever buy another one. I just added a Penguin 350 to go w/ it.

the fluval 05 line has a VERY improved intake, so that takes care of that. and i think they improved the primer, but may not have. i just fill up the canister on 04s with water before i put it back together after cleaning it and it starts up fine.

I have an XP3 in my 55 and an XP2 in my 30. My parents have an XP3 on their 75. We've had these for a couple years and havnt had any problems with any of them. Its really easy to clean and change the media.
