Do other people's canister filters make a humming noise? My filter is brand new, so maybe it will get a bit quieter as it gets "broken in"? People on this forum generally say they are fairly quiet. My filter is a Jebo 835.

Opinions anyone?

i think even the most expensive cannister is going to give up some "humm" from the motor. my Eheim cannisters, which i believe are the best in the biz" have a very feint humm which is the impeller rotation inside the magnetic sump. it also depends where you've got the tank and filter set up. against a wall like most of us, causes some reflection of the sound which magnifies it slightly. i think there's just no getting away from some slight motor humm.

Neither of my two Eheims makes a hum. One had now been running 5 years with Pressurized co2 pushed through it as well

I think they all make some noise, but some people can hear them better than others and some rooms are quieter than others (so filters are easier to hear). But they should be relatively quiet. I can here a slight noise from some of the Chinese canisters I have here, if I get real close, but not much...

I doubt it will change with time either. There is not much to 'brake in'...

mine were kind of loud the first few days until they worked all the hair bubbles out of them, now they are really quiet.

i have had my fluval for about a month or so now and i never hear it making any noise.

I've got 4 Eheim's. They are ultra quiet. Sure, if you open the door to the stand and unplug everything in the house you can hear the filter humming but you'll never notice it during everyday ops. If you think you filter is too loud you should exchange it while it is still new. I can't comment on your brand of filter but I would expect any canister to be quiet than an HOB. Then again, a properly maintained HOB with proper water level in the tank can be very queit.
