I plan on using a canister filter in addition to my AC 110. Well I was looking at a few and have a question.
The Eheim 2213 has a pump output of 116 GPH and is suitable for tanks up to 65 gallons.
Ok now Marineland C 160 has a 160 GPH Flow rate and recommended for aquariums up to 30 gallons in size.
Ok so if the Ehiem has less GPH how is it rated for a tank double that of the Marineland? I can get both for about the same price. What would you recommend for a secondary filtration?

Eheim's last forever, go with Eheim.

I think It comes down to two considerations.

1. Does the eheim have more media capacity? If so, then that explains the larger tank rating. Flow isn't the benchmark of what size tank a filter can handle. More media makes up for lower flow.

2. Do you need higher flow due to tank shape etc? Then maybe the higher output of the other canister would be better in that case.... or you could just add a power head or second filter. I'm a big fan of secondary filtration. Allows you to survive filter failures/maintenance easily as well start new tanks easier.

okay the eheim has the highest filtration capacity, basicly all the green is filter space, onl the top is the pump.

Once again thanks all.
