Canister vs. HOB filter for 75 gallon?

I agree , i would go with both, I alternate between filter changes and this helps to keep bio load steady when I clean one my filters when it's needed.

Only problem with both the Eheim and the Marineland is that neither come with spray bars.

My eheim came with the spray bar. I did not have to buy anything additional for it - pretty much plug and play.

I vote canister too, but I have both on my 75 gal. I figure if something happens to one, the other will be the backup. Have an Eheim 2217 and a Whisper 3 on mine. The eheim is dead silent. The whisper, in contrast, seems very loud, though it is no louder than my biowheel filters on my smaller setups...

I guess I vote both! :)

I have two canisters Eheim 2213's and AquaClear 70 HOB on my 55 gallon tank. :cool-1:

Eheim come with spray bar and are very quiet runners. I'm very happy with my canisters. :grinyes:

......nor media.:(

I run an XP3 and an AC70 with custom deflector on my 80gal planted tank.

The C series comes with all media and so do the Eheim classics. The Eheim pro 3 series do not come with all media, Most of the proII deals come with media now.
The XP on the other hand comes with sponge media,Chem and 4 bio stars I think?

All of the Eheims come with spraybars EXCEPT for the Ecco line with comes with a sheppard's crook output

All media came with my Eheim 2217 too. The only thing I did buy were media bags though they are not required. They just make life easier.

I appreciate a canister coming with media but it is the last thing on my mind when purchasing a canister filter. My concerns as an engineer with the machines I purchase has always been quantifiable performance, reliability, and value. Everything else comes second including creature comforts.
