My tubing for my Filstar filter is cruddy, and instead of cleaning, I've decided to just change it out..the stuff is so cheap.
I bought some , brought it home, and then had the thought:
Does it matter if the wall thickness isn't as much as the tubing that came with it? I don't get the feeling that these things generate so much pressure that they will blow it out...will they?
Any ideas?

I would be more worried about the in-take hose collapsing rather than the out take blowing. I do not think there is enough pressure on the out side unless it gets blocked and then it should blow off the barb first.

I hadn't even thought of that aspect! Thanks!!
I think I will look for better. I was at Lowes..couldn't get anyone to wait on me and cut what I wanted, so I bought a cheap lot of it from Harbor Freight.

You would have to use your best judgement on the tubing as how thin it is. If you can easily squeeze the tubing then I would probably only use it for the output hose. I know the local Ace Hardware had a couple of different thicknesses (if that is even a word) of hose. What you need to look at is the inside diameter or I.D. measurement. I noticed that the thicker the wall the smaller the I.D.. I only needed a foot of hose so the cheap stuff worked for me, when you get longer you will be more susceptible to kinks and collapsing on bends.

Careful of the thin stuff you get at the hardware stores. Sometimes they stretch out more than the regular filter tubing and can come loose from the filter or in/outs. I had it happen to me once.

My Rena xp3 gets brown alge build up in the stock hoses and has to be cleaned every few months. I've heard that black, or any non-clear tubing would decrease the alge build up.. but since it's brown algae...I dunno.. Anyone got any experience with this?

Thicknesses is a word...hehe
