Cannister Filters

My preference is to Fluval... wouldn't know exactly what size to tell you though.

I have heard that Eheim is great, but I've never been one to put out that kind of money.

Rena Filstar is the same boat. Lots of cash to drop, but from what I can tell, a very reliable, easy to use filter. When I replace my fluval and my HoT filter, I'll probably go with the Filstar on my 55 :)

Without knowing details of the tank (fish, number, planted, etc.) it's pretty much impossible to give you specific feedback.

I won't buy anything but Eheims; they're silent, super dependable, the best on the market. You pay more than some of the other brands, but you get what you pay for...

I would never own a fluval, Eheim or Rena filstar are great. Filstar is the best value by far. many people do not care for Fluval.

We just got rid of our last Fluval 404 and replaced it with a Rena Filstar xP-3. The Filstar is a great filter at a very reasonable price.
I'll try and find a link for the Rena Filstar canisters for you..

In some ways I think this sort of question goes back to the idea of, are you a Ford or Chevy person? The names that seem to come up time and time again are Fluval, Eheim, and Filstar. My best overall advise is to do as much research as you have time for and pick one that fits your budget and tank. I personally use a Fluval 404 and like it.

Another thumbs up for the XP3. The main reason I choose it (other than the excellent advice from the forums) was the filter media is available in more store than the Eheim products. IMO:)
