Can't deny this story is a bit odd...

it's not about putting you down as a person, but most of us here are concerned about the welfare of our fish and those owned by others. it's hard not to point it out when someone is doing something that is glaringly wrong and harmful. (overstocking, different temp requirements, no heater, messy species together, fish that grow very large, etc. . .) i think it would be a good idea for your cousin to do some research. hopefully he'll realize that what he is doing isn't the best thing for his fish. i don't know how old your cousin is. . . maybe a bigger tank and accessories could be the top items on his christmas list? otherwise maybe you could take those convicts back for a while until he can house them safely, or he can bring the goldfish and pleco to a LFS and trade them for store credit, more appropriate fish, or other things that he needs.

bringing a fish back is not the end of the world. it shows a lot of character to be honest enough with yourself to realize that you can't do your best for the fish at a certain point in time, and that you're willing to put its health before your pride.

With an attitude like that dude, we don't mind if ya leave. However you came on and basically said well all is fine so it must be ok! You got told otherwise and now your having a hissy fit over it, jease grow up dude. If your letting this crap ruin your day, you seriously need to start getting into some more important things.

The fact is when it comes right down to it, if he can't get a bigger tank, then why keep fish that are NOT suited for it? Did the LFS make him sign a binding contract that he could never return the fish? No I don't think so, he can always take them back so they have a chance for someone else to get them and provide a proper home for them. Instead, your adovacting just cause you can't afford to get something bigger to let them stay in an environment that is not suitable for them.

re

The cons will grow a lot bigger if they have more space and if they pair off that would be it for that goldfish.
So it's working out for now but things will change if the cons grow.

Tell you what, I just put 2 of my Cons larger ones in a 20 gal to keep them from killing my new baby blue dempsey that cost me 35 bucks. They are not eating and they sit at the bottom and don't swim. I know I have to get them out of that tank and invest in a new tank or get rid of them. Well my point here is I don't think they would be as big as they are now if they grew in the 20gal.

I'm sorry if the fish people were a bit hard on you. Hell they yell at me all the time, you will grow to like it. Don't try to breed the goldfish with a con I think they will ban you from the forums.

This is the point I was trying to make. I was directing my post more at your cousin than you. I appologize if I offended you, but the fact still remains something is wrong. I will stick with the analogy of the 30 poor dogs kept in the bathroom, being the same as 6 poor fish kept in a tiny tank. Simply due to the quote above. Your cousin can take back the fish, do some research, and get fish suited to the tank s/he has. Or can continue to abuse the animals despite knowing it is wrong. I hope you do not discontinue posting here. I would rather you learn something about fishkeeping, mabey get your cousin over here too.

I'm sure all of us have made mistakes, but learning from them and trying not to repeat them is the goal of this hobby. Again, most of this is directed at your cousin, but you should take the role of teacher/mentor and help those fishies
