I went to clean my tank today and I can't find my red tailed shark anywhere. I figured he was just hiding so after a couple of hours I took everything out of the tank and I still can't find him. I looked on the floor around the tank and nothing. Where the hell can he be. I do have cichlids in the tank but he is just as big as them. They are around three inches.

I do know that I lost a fish (baby catfish) a while back (11 years ago) and when I finally found it it was located on the other side of the room from where the tank was. It had gotten there by flopping around after it jumped. Just looking around the tanks area may not be looking at all of the areas where he may be if he did jump. Then again, if you have ornaments or something of the like in the tank, he may be hiding. I don't know very much about cichlids, but if the shark happened to be sick or died he may have became food for them.

I too lost two large bala sharks a few years ago, they (i dont know how they did it but they did) got out of the tank and got stuck down behind a bookcase that was about 5 feet away, the only reason i found it was the stench (poor bugger).

Cheers

I lost a red tailed shark in my first tank. They are shy fish and will hide anywhere. I had a smalll moulded castle in my tank with a very small door into it - the shark had squeezed it's way in, I couldn't believe it'd fit through the gap but it did.

Even when I lifted up the castle to look underneath the shark didn't swim out so it took me ages to find. Just keep watching it'll probably appear again soon - Unless it has got out.

If he did die, depending on what cichlids where in the tank, he may have been eaten.
This happended to me a while back, I lost an angel, Though he had jumped or maybe been eaten by a larger fish(but nothing in the tank could eat him hole) but upon a closer look did I discover what was left of him in the gravel (poor sod :() I only guess that he had died at some point and the other fishes inlcuding 2 serverems, parrot fish and an evi catfish I used to have (looked a bit like an ell/knifefish) thought o... lunchtime

I hope this isnt the case with your shark, Hope you find him as its awfull losing fish espeiclly if you have had them for ages
