I've been searching high and low for some saulosi and can't seem to find them anywhere. I still haven't set up my 40 gallon so I'm searching for other suitable tankmates for the rusty cichlids I plan on keeping in there.

I was talking to my usual guy at my LFS and he suggested kenyi elongatus, anyone else agree?

I'd really like to keep yellow labs and am really having a hard time determining how big they get. Some people say 3-4 inches some say 8 inches. I only have a 40 gallon and I want to have a bunch of small cichlids rather than a couple huge ones.

Yeah Yellow labs would compliment the Rusty's nicely as well as Acei's.. The good thing about Yellow labs is that they stay around the 5" i really haven't seen any labs reaching the 8" mark but hey with hormone injection i will say never say no..

I would start out with 5 each species should be a nice start..

I would say 5 inches is about right for the vast majority of labs - I have seen 8 inches of yellow lab but it was clearly a freak fish and you would not expect this adult size. Labs, Rusties, Aceis all go nicely together. Also cynotilapia afra stay nice and wee too and could go in instead of the Aceis, or in a big enough tank with them.

So if I went with say 6 rusty's and 6 yellow labs I should be ok in a 40 gallon?
