Cant Stop Coughing! Advise please

When you go to bed, rub Vicks ( the stuff you usually rub on your chest when you get a cold ) on the soles of your feet....this will help to ease, and usually stops the coughing completly when in bed, trying to sleep...

Dont even bother to ask me how this works, i just know that it does...LOL...

Giev it a shot, ya got nothing to loose...

and when you get up, go see a doctor...LOL

DISCLAIMER: wash your feet before putting them in your shoes to go see the doc... he might think you're crazy. :grinyes:

Great place to ask for medical advice, but I do agree, go see a doctor! Could be so many things causing the cough, start with ruling out the serious stuff, might need a chest ex-ray, or at least a breathing test. Cough is not something that you play wait and see with.

Feel better

I don't want to scare you but my brother had this cough that was only at night and it didn't go away. He's not a doctor kind of person so of course he waited, and waited. He finally got a chest x-ray, he was later diagnosed with the "c" word. Lucky for him it was in the beginning stage.

Don't mess with it or try to self-diagnosis yourself. Seek a professional opinion because you just don't know. I am happy to say that my brother has been in remission for nearly 3 years now.

Best of luck to you and feel better.

I have reconsidered.... 1 tsp table salt per 20 lbs of weight...dissolved in one pint of whiskey....sugar to sweeten..drink all..instant sleep...

Conski....are ya still with us?

tried this on my kids & myself, my mom found this online. it works! want them to have it on during school but they refuse!

but it doesn't cure the cough.

my friend recommends nasonex & asmanex (must be prescribed) inhaler. I was better in 3days, cough much less, better after 1 week! have to ask the doc to diagnose as asthma (not the severe case but symptoms so can get it prescribed).

what it is is a virus that can't be treated except to help relieve the symptoms. many get an infection so antibiotics are prescribed but once cleared the cough still remains. that is because our nasal & bronchial passages are inflamed by the virus - not infected by bacteria at this point.

using nasonex & asmanex (double dose for 5days then single thereafter, use for a month) will help reduce the inflammation. this really works wonders.

many pulmonary docs will prescribe immediately recognizing asthma symptoms (again not the severe case we hear about). GP's do not, they just prescribe antibiotics - but folks it's viral! I have educated my GP so next time I can get it prescribed easier.

but many say it's allergies. I tend to agree also - with us being cooped up in our heated dry homes, all the allergens circulating can cause a coughing allergy.

I have to say I get it every yr dec/jan & lasts 6wks. I have THE WORST cough around - so loud & ear poppin! gives me headaches & at times pain in my chest.

but after using nasonex & asmanex - what a world of difference.

hope this helps you & others with similar experiences.

Did you have a cold before? Are you prone to allergies or post nasal drip?

Going a doctor is a great idea if you have health insurance. If not, you're likely going to be charged for a consult, possibly an x-ray, almost certainly antibiotics and perhaps an inhaler. The last time I did this (years ago, when I had more money to spare) it cost me over $300 out of pocket at the express care place.

If it gets worse, yeah go to the doctor...but if this has been going on for less than a week, I see no reason to rush over there. It is cold season and the weather has been terrible everywhere lately.
