its time to do my weekly water changes and i herd that useing carbon would take meds out of a tank is this true with aquium salt and stress coat as well, because i use both on my tank??????

Shouldn't have any effect on salt. Just curious, but why add stress coat? Very often its just not needed. Not to mention the validity of stresscoat is fairly questionable to start with.

Stress Coat is like a brand. I use it for my water dechlorinator, and have for over 15 years now. I can't see how it harms my fish, but I DO know that it makes fresh tap water safe. That much--- I do know.

Also, I would question why you add salt to your aquarium. If anything, I'd question the validity behind that notion...salt isn't needed, besides on severely sick/injured/stressed fish. I have had to use it a few times, but once on a sick goldfish I rescued. He had a severe case of dropsy. Luckily, after a few salt baths (last resort), and some medicated food hand fed, I could save him.

Anyway, I dont see a need for salt. And not to my knowledge does carbon remove your water conditioner (stress coat). Like I said, maybe I'm a lucky one but my stress coat has always been faithful to me and my aquariums. No complains on this end...;)

Just to confirm, carbon will not remove salt. Ive used it before to clear up ich and I kept the carbon in my filters at the same time. The only way to remove salt is by doing a water change.

From what I understand stresscoat contains several chemicals one of which is a declorinator. Never said it would harm fish. What I meant is aside from neutralizing the chlorine the other claims that the products make seem unfounded. Such as enhancing the slime coating of fish and such. If you are using it to remove chlorine thats fine. Now if you were using a declorinator and stresscoat I think that would be a bit of overkill.

Oh well yeah...I would never use it "just to use it". I add it to my water during water changes and it always comes thru for me. As I have said in the past, I'm no expert with chemicals or things added to the products we buy but I do know whats worked for me in the past. When I recommend something or some product, its only because I've had success with that product. Others might find different results who knows...

But no, the carbon wont remove any of the things we've talked about here (ie stress coat, salt, etc.)

Just a quick question concerning carbon. Right now some of my fish have Ich. I added tablets to the water and the directions said to remove the carbon from the filter. So do I just remove my filter in general, or do I have to rip the filter apart to pull the carbon out? My filter is all in one piece, so I can't remove the carbon unless I tear apart my filter right?

in the past I never removed the carbon but it depends on the chemicals the tabs have some are metals such as copper etc. If they say to I would remove the filter media that has the carbon in it. What sort of filter are you using that has a single peace cartridge all the ones I have seen have a multipiece ones even the inexpensive whispers where you can custom mix your media, like I used to have to add an amonia remover becasue of the tap water using chlorimaine in there water to treat it.
