Cardinal Plant Not colorful

So how much in a 29 Gallon tank? 1 steel nail? a few steel nails? I just hope they don't get sucked into my canister filters motor.

Ok I read up on your nails method. And everything I read said that plants cannot absorb iron in that form. They say it's a old myth and it doesn't benefit the plants any. Anyone else use this method and know if it actually works?

Of course I am expecting to lose some of the blues and purple because I think the reason why it's blueish-purple is because of its emersed growth from the distributor.

How much/what light do you have?

You need to dose even more iron that what is being provided by the csm + b.

try adding a few nails to your filter to get extra iron chelate(rust). If that isnt doing the trick add a little steel wool, as it has more surface area and will rust faster.

Wow! Does that really work? Does it add the Iron at the level of dosing with Flourish Iron? I hope it's not a myth. That would be a pretty cheap way to fert your plants with Iron.

Here is a thread at the barr report about it. What I got from it was that plants can take in both chelated and non chelated iron, however, the chelated iron is in a solution, so it can stay waterborne. There is mention in the thread that what the plant takes in from the substrate, may not always make it to the leaves of the plant. Maybe tom himself can help out here.

Wow what the heck is wrong with mine, it hasn't grown since i got it, 8 months ago. Just one little stock. hasn't grew at all! LOL i didn't even know they could look like that. But isn't they non true aquatic?

Mine does fine, it pearls and it's growing new leaves on the bottom. The new leaves are green on top and bluish-purple on the bottom. I believe its one of those plants that can be grown emersed also. But it only gets those pretty red flowers if it's emersed.
