I forgot to mention one important thing for those of you that have RO systems. It is well known in industry and retail RO production that using a water softener as a pre-filter to remove Cal/Mag and other heavy metals in exchange for either salt or potassium ions, greatly extends the life of the RO membrane and other pre-filters in the system and also increases production. The reason is the calcification properties of Cal/Mag adheres to and clog membrane passages more immediate and permanently then salt or potassium which fare more soluble in water. For this same reason Cal/mag in high GH quantities of above 350 PPM affects fish gills and displaces O2 in water on much greater scale (X100) then salt or potassium ions.

Bottom line if you want your RO filters to last much longer, pre-filter with a water softener.
